From Scrunchies to Scrunchie Dog Bandanas: How The Posh Pup Collective Got Its Start
Welcome to The Posh Pup Collective's very first blog post. I thought what better way to kick off my blog than to go all the way back to the beginning and share the story of how Posh Pup began.
I've always dreamed of being a full time business owner. Entrepreneurship runs deep in my blood. I had a few business ideas in mind, but dog bandanas came into the picture rather unexpectedly. I was initially experimenting with sewing handmade scrunchies. I had a hand-me-down sewing machine and I wanted to see if I could make them for myself. I ended up making a whole bunch of scrunchies. It was a fun creative outlet for me!
One day, I decided I wanted to make a bandana for my dog Auggie, who was not even one year old yet at the time. I made him a normal bandana that went over his collar, but it didn’t quite feel unique. That’s when I came across someone online making scrunchie-style dog bandanas—a design I had never seen before. They were different, eye-catching, and looked way more comfortable than the traditional tie-on or over the collar kinds.
I knew instantly that this was it. This was how I could combine my passion for business, my creativity, and my love of dogs into something meaningful.
Why Scrunchie Dog Bandanas?
While there are tons of dog bandana shops out there, scrunchie dog bandanas are still rare, and that’s what makes them special. These bandanas slip on over the head using an elastic band. This makes them secure, easy to wear, and incredibly comfortable for pups of all shapes and sizes. They don't dangle or loosen during play, and they’re just as cute as they are practical.
I spent weeks testing different sizes and measurements on Auggie until I got the fit just right. He quickly became the face of my brand! The hard part was determining how many sizes to offer, and how to get each size just right. Owning only one small dog made this difficult. I ended up recruiting a few of my friend's larger dogs to test the different sizes.
Building the Brand from the Ground Up
The early days were humbling. I signed up for any local dog-friendly market or vendor event I could find. There were times I would sit at events for hours on a Saturday and not make a single sale. Mind you, I have been working full time at my corporate job since I started Posh Pup, so sitting at events not making any sales was not an ideal use of my time. But every event was a chance to learn and grow. It helped me fine-tune the product, talk directly with other dog lovers, and most importantly, begin to build a community that believed in the mission behind The Posh Pup Collective.
Fast forward to today, where I'm much more selective when It comes to attending In person events. I ask lots of questions to the host before deciding whether or not to attend. I've slowly built up my followings on social media to focus on selling more online. My online shop offers a full range of handmade scrunchie dog bandanas in sizes XS to XL, thoughtfully designed for dogs of all breeds and personalities. I focus on high-quality materials, modern prints, and a comfortable fit, so your dog not only looks great but feels great too! I'm regularly coming out with new prints - whether they be seasonal, or everyday wear.
